The Chief of Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, will visit Jammu today to assess the security situation following a recent increase in terror attacks. He will meet with senior leadership and troops in the area. This is his second visit since becoming Army Chief. The attacks, suspected to involve new terrorists who infiltrated from Pakistan, have intensified in areas like Doda, Kathua, and Reasi. He aims to restore stability amidst increased violence by new terrorists reportedly from Pakistan’s Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regions, many of whom are linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).

In the past year, there have been six separate incidents resulting in the tragic loss of 11 Armed Forces personnel. The majority of these casualties occurred within the past few weeks and were faced by security personnel. Also, a civilian bus was targeted in Reasi last month, resulting in the deaths of nine passengers who were civilians.

Sources suggest that the perpetrators of these attacks may include a new wave of terrorists who infiltrated the region over the past six months, originating from Pakistan’s Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regions. Many are believed to be recruits of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).

The surge in high-intensity terror activities, particularly in areas south of the Pir Panjal range like Poonch, Rajouri, and Jammu, highlights the urgent need for enhanced security measures and strategic responses.
