Youtuber Savukku Shankar arrested again, this time over remark on freedom fighters

JJ News Desk

Popular Tamil YouTuber Savukku Shankar was arrested again by the Tamil Nadu Police for allegedly making derogatory remarks about freedom fighters. He is already in jail for another case over objectionable remarks against female cops.

Shankar was arrested on Saturday following a complaint from a person identified as Muthu, who alleged that the YouTuber spoke derogatorily about India's freedom fighters.

After the complaint, a case was registered against Shankar under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on July 15, leading to his arrest by the police.

Shankar was presented before a local court and subsequently transferred to Chennai's Central Prison.

He is facing multiple cases filed by the police in Trichy, Coimbatore, and Nilgiris.

Earlier in May this year, Shankar was arrested by the Coimbatore Police for allegedly making defamatory and objectionable remarks against women police officials.

The cybercrime wing of the Coimbatore Police arrested Shankhar from Theni, based on a complaint by a woman sub-inspector of police. Shankhar allegedly had made derogatory comments during an online interview.

However, Shankar refuted all the allegations and accused Tamil Nadu's Sports Minister, Udhayanidhi Stalin, for framing him in false cases.

"More false cases are being fostered as per the instructions from Udhayanidhi. He is responsible for the arrest" Shankar said while speaking to the media.

Savukku Shankar is a vocal critic of the MK Stalin-led DMK government in Tamil Nadu. He was earlier sent to a six-month jail term by the Madras High Court for contempt.
