Woman's naked body found near railway track in Andhra, cops suspect rape

Police in Andhra Pradesh’s Baptala district are investigating the death of a 21-year-old woman whose body was found near a railway track on Friday, June 21. The incident is being treated as a case of murder and rape, police said.

According to Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal, the victim, who was unmarried and a resident of Epurupalem village, went missing on Friday morning. She left her home around 5:30 am to attend to nature's call and did not return.

Her family launched a search and later came across her body close to the railway tracks. She was found in a naked state, reported news agency PTI.

Police have registered a case of murder and rape, and an investigation is underway.

“The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident and will arrest the accused soon,” said SP Vakul Jindal.

The Andhra Pradesh government announced an ex gratia of Rs 10 lakh to the kin of the deceased woman.

According to the state’s Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha, who visited the crime scene, the woman was from a poor family and worked as a seamstress, while her father is a weaver.
