A 21-year-old woman was allegedly drugged and raped by a person she met on social media. Sharing the ordeal, which she called the "most traumatic experience of my life", on Instagram, the Mumbai woman said the accused was yet to be arrested despite 12 days having passed since the incident.
The woman said she went out for a party with the accused, with whom she had interacted on Instagram. The woman said she first went to a place for drinks with the accused and met a couple of his friends there.
The duo then left for another restaurant, where the woman claimed she was forced to drink more liquor by the accused. The woman claimed she had a blackout episode due to alcohol consumption.
"After some tequila shots, I became intoxicated, feeling anxious and alone at the party. He insisted I drink more, and I had a blackout episode, not recalling what happened next," the woman claimed in the post.
"I woke up to him raping me, and despite my efforts to stop him, he continued and even slapped me three times with intense rage, leaving me scared and intimidated," the woman alleged.
The woman claimed the alleged incident took place at the residence of the accused's friend. The woman said the accused threatened her if she called for help.
"The place turned out to be his friend's, and his friends intervened to protect him. He tried to get me out before I could call for help, even threatening me in their presence," the post read.
The woman said she called her cousin to pick her up. She eventually narrated the incident to her parents and filed an FIR later that week.
She claimed the accused later apologised for the incident, saying the "situation got heated up and escalated".
"Hi, I am genuinely sorry for whatever happened tonight, didn't mean to do what happened, the situation got heated up and escalated, and I'm really very sorry. I hope we can get over this and leave this behind us, I'm again very apologetic and sorry," the man said in apology, as per the woman.
In her post, the woman said the apology meant nothing to her and claimed the accused was on the run. "Twelve days have passed, and he hasn't been arrested. He has applied for anticipatory bail," the woman's post said.
The accused has reportedly been booked under IPC sections 376 (punishment for rape), and 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt).
Reacting to the woman's post on Instagram, the Mumbai Police said, "We are grateful you duly reported it, and we assure you that the investigation should be rightfully done to ensure justice."
