The months-long reign of terror caused by a six-member wolf pack in the Mahsi region of Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich has come to an end after the final wolf, responsible for attacking livestock and endangering villagers, was killed by villagers on Saturday. The animal was beaten to death while attempting to hunt a goat after failing to prey on a child.

For months, the wolves had spread fear across the area, attacking villagers and livestock. This particular wolf, the last of the pack, had evaded capture for over 24 days despite the forest department's continuous efforts.

On September 10, forest officials had successfully captured the fifth wolf of the pack. The death of the sixth wolf has finally brought relief to the villagers, who had been living in constant fear. The pack had killed nine children and one woman, leaving more than 50 people injured.

Ajit Singh, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Bahraich, stated that they were alerted to the incident at around 8.30 pm on Saturday. By the time they reached the site, both the goat and the wolf lay dead.

According to Singh, the sixth wolf cannot be confirmed as man-eating, as no attacks had occurred after the capture of the fifth wolf. However, it is believed to be a member of the same group that had terrorised the region.

The forest department is conducting a thorough investigation and plans to file an FIR related to the incident. Though the sixth wolf was likely separated from its pack after the capture of the others, its death marks the end of the wolves' threat in the area.
