A 35-year-old man died after he was hit by a speeding car in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area of Pune district when he was bursting firecrackers on the road.
The accident occurred on November 1 and was captured on CCTV. The victim, identified as Soham Patel, was bursting firecrackers on the roadside on Diwali eve when a car hit him and fled.
Soham sustained severe injuries from the impact and died.
Even after 48 hours, the accused driver is yet to be caught. The Ravet police have registered a case against the unidentified driver and are investigating the accident.
In a separate incident, five children were injured in Pune's Sinhgad area after the lid of a drain chamber blew up when they burst firecrackers on it, police said.
Another death related to firecrackers' bursting was reported in Nagpur when a 25-year-old man was stabbed to death allegedly by a teenager.
The victim, identified as Amol Waghmare, got into an argument with a teenager over firecrackers on November 1. During the altercation, the teenager attacked Waghmare with a knife and killed him, police said.
