A man in Uttar Pradesh's Deoria was grievously injured after his wife allegedly threw boiling water on him over the suspicion of having an extra-marital affair, police said.

The victim, identified as Ashish Rai, was also beaten by his father-in-law and pushed off the terrace by his brother-in-law when he attempted to escape his wife's attack.

Following the incident, Ashish was rushed to a nearby hospital where he received primary treatment before being referred to the city's Maharshi Devraha Baba Medical College for further care.

According to Ashish, the incident occurred on April 13 when he was visiting his in-laws' home with his wife, at her request, to see his ailing brother. Upon reaching his in-law's home, Amrita requested that he stay overnight.

When the duo was sleeping in a room, Amrita woke up in the night, took boiling water from the kitchen, and threw it on him, Ashish alleged, adding further that his sister-in-law had kept the boiling water in the kitchen.

Ashish added that when he tried to run, his father-in-law thrashed him, and his brother-in-law threw him off the terrace, while sharing his ordeal with the media.

Speaking about the incident, Bhim Kumar Gautam, the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Deoria, stated that a case has been registered under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against four people in connection with the matter, and the accused woman has been arrested.

Further action was underway.
