A woman threw acid on her lover in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh, allegedly in retaliation for years of blackmail. The woman, identified as Varsha, had been in a relationship with the man, Vivek, for the past 12 years despite being married.

The incident occurred when Vivek called Varsha to meet him at a local restaurant. During their conversation, Varsha suddenly pulled a bottle of acid from her bag and threw it at Vivek. He sustained severe burn injuries, while both Varsha and a restaurant employee were also burned in the process.

Following the attack, Vivek managed to flee the scene. Police arrived shortly after receiving information about the incident and took Varsha for medical treatment. They are currently searching for Vivek, who is still at large.

According to restaurant owner Deepak Garg, the incident took place around 11:30 am. He recounted, "The woman arrived first, followed by the man a short time later. I was having breakfast with a friend when a waiter informed me that something had happened. Everything was chaotic. When I asked the woman what happened, she said she threw acid on him because he had been blackmailing her for 12 years."

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Varun Kumar Mishra confirmed that while Varsha is married, the exact motive behind the attack remains unclear. "It appears that Varsha threw acid at her friend Vivek, who then fled the scene. Some of the acid also splashed on Varsha, and she is receiving medical care. We have yet to receive an official complaint, but appropriate legal action will be taken," he stated.

ASP Mishra added that the relationship between Varsha and Vivek was mutual, suggesting that personal differences might have escalated the situation. "This is a serious case, and we should avoid making premature conclusions. We will bring both parties in for questioning, and updates will be shared with the media once we gather more details."

Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the restaurant and are working to track down Vivek using his bike and phone number.
