UP man gives triple talaq to wife after dowry demand for Scorpio not met

JJ News Desk

A case has been registered against a man in Uttar Pradesh's Banda for allegedly pronouncing instant triple talaq on his wife after a dispute over dowry, where his demand for a Scorpio car was not met.

In her complaint, the woman said that she got married in 2015, according to Muslim customs, adding that her father had provided a dowry of Rs 15 lakh at the time.

She alleged that since the wedding, her husband and other in-laws, including five brothers-in-law, had been making further demands for a dowry.

When the demand was not fulfilled, she claimed she faced physical and mental abuse, threats of a second marriage, and was allegedly thrown out of her home in July last year.

The woman, currently residing at her parental home, revealed that her husband recently visited her and forced an altercation, demanding a Scorpio car as dowry. After his demand was rejected, he allegedly pronounced triple talaq.

The woman has sought action against her husband and in-laws for dowry harassment and the triple talaq incident. The police said an investigation had been launched into the matter and efforts are underway to arrest the accused individuals.
