A teacher at Kendriya Vidyalaya School in Tamil Nadu’s Nagercoil has been arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act for allegedly sexually assaulting an eighth-grade girl student.

Ramachandra Soni, an art teacher originally from Rajasthan, was taken into custody following a complaint made by the student. The girl first reported the incident to the school headmaster, who promptly initiated an internal enquiry and suspended Soni from his duties.

The headmaster subsequently filed a complaint with the District Child Welfare Officer, who then registered the case with the Nagercoil All Women Police Station. Sub-Inspector Asha Jawahar led the investigation, conducting enquiries with the students before arresting Soni under four sections of the Pocso Act.

The case is currently under further investigation.
