Eight people, including a Naam Thamizhar Katchi (NTK) functionary, have been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a minor at a school camp in Bargur in Tamil Nadu's Krishnagiri district.

The incident occurred on August 9 when a 12-year-old girl participated in an NCC camp for Class 5 and Class 7 students at school. The camp had 17 students, including the 12-year-old, and had reportedly slept in the school auditorium.

On August 16, the girl had fallen ill and when her parents asked about her health, she alleged that Sivaraman, who was a part of the camp, had woken up and took her to a secluded place and molested her. Sivaraman, who is also a functionary with the NTK, was expelled from the party after the incident surfaced.

The child said she had complained to her school teacher and principal, Satish Kumar, and alleged that the latter did not take any action.

The 12-year-old was taken to Krishnagiri Government Hospital where she is undergoing treatment. Based on a complaint from the parents, the police filed an FIR and arrested Satish Kumar, Sivaraman, Jennifer, Samson Wesley, Sakthivel, Sindhu, Sathya and Subramani. All were sent to judicial custody.

Four special teams were formed to arrest Sivaraman and Sudhakar, who were on the run. According to sources, the police found out during the investigation that Sivaraman had allegedly sexually assaulted more than five minor girls.

A special team arrested Sivaraman in Coimbatore and is on the lookout for Sudhakar.
