A 19-year-old boy allegedly shot himself using his father's gun at his home in Bengaluru on Tuesday evening. The deceased, identified as Vishu Uthappa, was a first-year engineering student, and he was enrolled in the first semester of his course at Raja Rajeshwari Engineering College.

The deceased hailed from Mukodalu village in Madikeri district.

A preliminary probe revealed that the teenager succumbed to a bullet injury "in his left chest with a DBBL weapon".

Vishu Uthappa shot himself when no one was home at around 4:00 pm, using the licenced gun of his father, the police said. His father had a gun licence as a security personnel at Nandi Infrastructures Corridor Enterprises.

"Vishu Uthappa, 19 years old, was shot in his left chest with a DBBL weapon when his parents went out of the house to fetch their belongings," Deputy Commissioner of Police, North Division, Bengaluru stated in a press note.

"Father (of Vishu) KD Tammaiah has been doing the job of depositing the money collected in the Nice Toll to the bank for about seven years. The said person has a licenced DDBL weapon," the police added.

The authorities have initiated a probe and his body has been sent for post-mortem.
