People who grew up in the 1990s and early 2000s must have been fond of reading Harry Potter books and even watching their movies, right? Through the Harry Potter series, author J.K. Rowling managed to transport a whole generation of kids into a magical world.
And even after so many years, it seems that its popularity and love has not gone away.
Recently, auctioneer Richard Winterton sold a first edition of the book Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone for a whopping $10,500 (about Rs 11 lakh).
Only 500 of the original copies of the book, with a laminated board cover, were printed by Bloomsbury in 1997, and only 300 of those were distributed to libraries.
Immediately from Los Angeles, the winner’s offer, which was significantly more than its price range of $3,000 to $5,000, was made.
“Wow, what an incredible result for the Harry Potter book! A hammer price of $10,500,” the auction house’s post on Facebook mentioned in its caption.
“We’re absolutely delighted with this result. The first in the original series of books by JK Rowling, this copy has clearly been well-read and still has its library identification sticker, spine sticker with the letter J, withdrawal stamp, and 30p selling price,” said auctioneer Richard Winterton, who was interviewed by Sky News.
The book even has the library stamp on it.
