One person, who was among 15 officials trapped at Hindustan Copper Limited's Kolihan mine in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district, died due to severe injuries on Wednesday. The other 14 members, including members of a Kolkata vigilance team, were rescued after overnight operations involving police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

The officials, who included members of a team of Hindustan Copper Limited, got trapped in the mine on Tuesday night after a lift used to carry the personnel collapsed.

Overnight rescue operations brought out the personnel who were stuck at a depth of 577 metres at the Kolihan mine.

After being rescued, three people, who were severely injured, were taken to a hospital in Jaipur.

Dr Pravin Sharma of Jhunjhunu Government Hospital said, "All the people trapped in the mine have been rescued safely. Three of them were in serious condition and have been referred to Jaipur."

The nursing staff of Jhunjhunu government hospital, Shishram, said, "Some people have suffered fractures in hands and some in legs. Everyone is safe. Three people are seriously injured, the rest are safe. The rescue operation was done with the help of a ladder."

According to preliminary information, the incident occurred when the vigilance team along with senior officials of the company went down the shaft for an inspection.

When they were about to come up, the rope of the shaft or 'cage' broke, due to which around 14 officers were stuck, the police said.
