Prime Minister Narendra Modi today wished a speedy recovery to Britain's King Charles III, who has been diagnosed with cancer.

"I join the people of India in wishing speedy recovery and good health to His Majesty King Charles III," the Prime Minister wrote on X.

The Buckingham Palace, in a statement on Monday, said that King Charles has been diagnosed with cancer following his surgery for benign prostate enlargement. The 75-year-old monarch underwent surgery for an enlarged prostate at The London Clinic last month. He was diagnosed with the benign condition on January 17. King Charles has begun treatment and doctors have advised him to postpone public-facing duties, the statement said.

"He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible," it added.

The news of King Charles's diagnosis is being shared to "prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer", said the Palace.

King Charles will continue to undertake state business and official paperwork as usual while he receives treatment.

Both Prince William and Henry were personally informed by King Charles about his diagnosis and Prince William is in regular contact with his father.

Meanwhile, former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson also sent his wishes for the King's speedy recovery and said, "The whole country will be rooting for the King today."
