A viral WhatsApp message has sparked widespread debate, revealing a groom's extensive list of expectations for his prospective medico bride. The groom, reportedly a PhD and gold medalist, outlined his preferences in a detailed and, to many, controversial manner. His demands include a bride with a BMI under 24 who can manage all household duties without any help, while treating her job as optional.
Singer Chinmayi Sripaada highlighted the viral post on X, stating, "This is the exact List Of Requirements that a Groom sent to a prospective bride who is a Medico. Groom is a PhD and Gold Medallist apparently. LOL."
The list begins with, “About Bride - Should be graceful, competent, and smart enough to handle her home and family matters. She should be vibrant and energetic, bringing color, variety, and liveliness through her physical contribution to the family’s lifestyle, including food, clothing, and overall well-being. Ideally, she should be within a 24 BMI.”
The message goes further, emphasising that the bride should be able to mechanise daily chores without relying on servants or outsourcing. Her job is described as optional, with earning considered immaterial. If she chooses to work, it should be out of passion but secondary to the needs of the family. The groom also mentions that for the first seven years of marriage, the bride may not be able to work unless posted to Chennai, as they expect a child and want her to focus on the child until they start school.
This candid and controversial list has fueled a range of reactions. Some users criticised the groom's requirements as outdated and unrealistic, while others defended his transparency. "Seems very unrealistic and archaic. I don’t think any woman smart enough for his requirements would ever agree to this," remarked one user.
Conversely, another defended the groom's honesty. "I kind of appreciate him for being clear about what he wants. There are women who choose to embrace traditional roles and manage their homes," the user noted, arguing that his directness avoids future misunderstandings.
Skepticism about the authenticity of the message also surfaced, with one commenter suggesting, “2 minutes of silence for anyone that believes this really happened.” Despite this, others validated the post’s realism based on personal experiences.
