Patna: The two-lane double-decker flyover on Ashok Rajpath, being constructed to tackle the ever-increasing vehicular traffic in the area, is likely to be ready by January 2025. The 2.2-km-long flyover is being constructed by the Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Limited (BRPNNL).
A BRPNNL executive engineer said the construction work on the stretch between Bankipore church and civil court will begin within a couple of weeks.
“Process to acquire the land and remove encroachments is on, ” he said, adding there will be service lanes on both sides of the road.
“We encountered some problems in acquiring land near the church. However, things are now back on track. A new boundary wall of the church has been constructed and the width of the road will be increased by 11 feet. Accordingly, service lane will be constructed between Bankipore church and civil court and the work on flyover will begin on this stretch. Commuters will temporarily face traffic problems on Ashok Rajpath. Once the project is completed, it will reduce the travel time for them,” he added.
According to the engineer, around 55% work has been completed. “We faced several issues which delayed the project. Work has been going on simultaneously between Kargil Chowk and Kulhariya Complex (300m), from civil court to public health institute (180m) and from PMCH (gate 2) to Science College (800m),” he said.
Construction work has not started yet near Patna Market and Science College due to the ongoing construction of underground metro station. The engineers said the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has engaged the land to carry out construction works at two locations. “They were supposed to hand over the land by October this year, but it has not happened yet,” the engineers said.
As per the detailed project report (DPR), two-lane tier II of the flyover will start from Kargil Chowk and it will go up to Science College. The total length of this level is 2.2km. Tier I will start from Patna College and end at B N College and it will be 1.45-km-long. The traffic lanes on both the levels will be 7.5-metre-wide and it will cater to the one-way traffic movement, from Gandhi Maidan towards NIT Mor and eastern side of Ashok Rajpath to B N College.
The double-decker flyover will have two access points – the first will connect the PMCH’s proposed multi-level car parking and the second will be linked to J P Ganga Pathway from Krishna Ghat.
The flyover is expected to reduce the traffic load and provide relief to the commuters.
