Odisha: Nandankanan Zoo’s white tigress Rupa gives birth to four new cubs

With the new arrivals, Nandankanan now has a total of 27 tigers, including 17 normal-colored, 7 white, and 3 melanistic tigers.

Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) welcomed four new tiger cubs. born to white tigress Rupa. The cubs were delivered between 5.43 am and 9.31 am, following Rupa’s mating with melanistic tiger Krishna.

Zoo officials reported that the cubs are under CCTV surveillance to ensure their health and safety, but it is too early to determine their sex, PTI reported.

With the new arrivals, Nandankanan now has a total of 27 tigers, including 17 normal-colored, 7 white, and 3 melanistic tigers.

In related news, a female cheetah at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh is pregnant. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav shared the announcement on social media Sunday, expressing optimism about the upcoming cubs.

“Happiness is coming to Kuno. A female cheetah is soon going to give birth to new cubs in the Kuno National Park of Madhya Pradesh, the ‘Cheetah State’ of the country,” Yadav posted on X.

Breaking from tradition, Yadav was the first to share this information, which is typically released by the central government. He highlighted the significance of the Cheetah Project, initiated under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling it “a symbol of a big achievement” and a testament to the continuous improvement in ecological balance.
