Mumbai airport gets bomb threat, caller says passenger travelling to Azerbaijan carrying explosives

Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport received a bomb threat on Wednesday afternoon when an unidentified caller claimed that there was a conspiracy to blow up the airport.

The call was made to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) control room, with the caller specifically mentioning a person named Mohammad who was allegedly carrying explosives on a flight from Mumbai to Azerbaijan.

Upon receiving the threat, the CISF immediately alerted the Sahar Police, leading to a swift security sweep of the airport premises. Authorities intensified surveillance and conducted thorough checks to ensure passenger safety.

Amid a surge in airline threat calls, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has stepped up security measures nationwide.

Over 450 hoax calls were reported in October, prompting widespread concern regarding the potential implications for passenger safety and national security.

To address these growing threats, the NIA's cyber wing has launched a comprehensive analysis of these foreign threat calls. This investigation is focused on discerning the motives behind these calls and assessing their authenticity.

Taking a strong view of the hoax threat calls, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) issued an advisory to all social media platforms in October, asking them to adhere to provisions of the Information Technology (IT) Rules and Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and make "reasonable efforts" to 'promptly' take down bomb threat posts or else "be held liable".
