Mother of Pune teen, who killed 2 with Porsche, arrested

JJ News Desk

The Pune police on Saturday arrested the mother of the teen accused of running over two techies with his Porsche last month. Shivani Agarwal was arrested after confirmation that his son's blood samples were replaced with hers, the city police chief told news agency PTI.

Cops said Agarwal was traced after she came to Pune from Mumbai on Friday night. She is likely to be produced in a court today, according to PTI.

Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar said the accident investigation has confirmed that the teen's blood samples were swapped with those of his mother.

The arrest comes days after police told a local court that the blood samples of the teen were exchanged with those of a woman to show that he was not drunk at the time of the accident.

The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report showed no alcohol in the teen's first blood sample, which raised suspicions. Later, a second blood test conducted at a different hospital and DNA tests confirmed the samples were from two different individuals.

Agarwal had been absconding since the arrest of Dr Shrihari Halnor, and Dr Ajay Tawade and the police were trying to trace her. The doctors were arrested for allegedly tampering with evidence, by throwing the 17-year-old’s blood sample into a dustbin and switching it with another individual’s.

Two IT professionals were killed in the early hours of May 19 in Kalyani Nagar in Pune after a Porsche allegedly being driven by a drunk minor rammed their bike.

While the 17-year-old minor has been sent to an observation home, his father, realtor Vishal Agarwal and grandfather Surendra Agarwal have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping the family's driver and pressuring him to take the blame.
