Mother of baby rescued from roof of Chennai apartment dies in Coimbatore

JJ News Desk

Weeks after a toddler was saved in a dramatic rescue by neighbours after being stuck on the edge of a tin roof of a Chennai apartment, his mother was found dead at her parents' home in Coimbatore on Sunday.

On April 28, a video went viral showing an eight-month-old toddler hanging from the plastic sheet covering the roof of an apartment in Avadi in Chennai.

Many neighbours were seen holding bedsheets and standing on the ground to ensure that the child fell onto it. Several neighbours climbed out of the window below the roof and rescued the baby.

Though the rescuers were immensely praised, the baby's mother, Ramya, was criticised on social media for negligence. However, the neighbours clearly stated that she had taken good care of the child and that the baby falling was only an accident.

Following the incident, Ramya took her child to her parents’ house in Karamadai. On Sunday, Ramya was found unconscious in the house and was rushed to hospital where she was declared dead.

Singer Chinmayi Sripaada slammed actor Prashanth Rangaswamy over the death of the baby's mother and alleged that the woman killed herself after being shamed over the incident.

"People like @itisprashanth and those who have shamed the parent/s under this Tweet, all these human creations can perhaps celebrate now since the mother of this child has now killed herself," Sripaada tweeted.
