Ramoji Rao, media baron and the founder of Eenadu and Ramoji Film City died in Hyderabad on Saturday morning. According to news agency ANI, Ramoji died while he was undergoing treatment at a hospital in the city.

He breathed his last at 3.45 am.

Following Rao's demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended condolences to his family, friends and admirers.

Sharing a picture of himself with Rao, the Prime Minister said Ramoji Rao was a visionary who revolutionised Indian media.

"The passing away of Shri Ramoji Rao Garu is extremely saddening. He was a visionary who revolutionized Indian media. His rich contributions have left an indelible mark on journalism and the world of films. Through his noteworthy efforts, he set new standards for innovation and excellence in the media and entertainment world," the Prime Minister tweeted.

"Ramoji Rao Garu was extremely passionate about India’s development. I am fortunate to have got several opportunities to interact with him and benefit from his wisdom. Condolences to his family, friends and countless admirers during this difficult time. Om Shanti," he added.

Telangana BJP chief and party MP G Kishan Reddy also said he was saddened by Rao's passing away.

"His remarkable contributions to Telugu media and journalism is commendable. My deepest condolences to his family members. Om Shanti," he wrote on X.

Ramoji Rao, born on November 16, 1936, was a businessman, media entrepreneur, and film producer. He was the head of the Ramoji Group which included the world's largest film production facility, Ramoji Film City, Eenadu newspaper, ETV Network of TV channels, and film production company Usha Kiran Movies.

Ramoji Rao's other business ventures include Margadarsi Chit Fund, Dolphin Group of hotels, Kalanjali shopping mall, Priya pickles, and Mayuri Film Distributors.
