Armed miscreants targeted security personnel in Moreh town in Manipur's Tengnoupal district on Wednesday. This resulted in the death of one state police personnel.

On early Wednesday morning at around 4 am, armed miscreants ambushed security forces near Ema Kondong Lairembi Devi Mandir while they were sleeping. The miscreants used rocket-propelled grenades (RPG) and live rounds from the hilltop of Chikim Village for the attack, India Today NE reported.

The Assam Rifles, positioned just 20 meters from the IRB Post, shielded the area using bullet-proof vehicles and retaliated to protect the IRB personnel.

Following the initial attack at Ema Kondong Lairembi IRB Post, the armed miscreants launched another ambush at around 5:10 am, targeting security forces deployed at SBI Bank Building Dekhunai Resort, as per the report.

The Superintendent of Special Commando sought shelter in this area, and the miscreants used a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) from Moreh.

Earlier, the Manipur government had imposed a total curfew from 12 am on January 16 following inputs of "likelihood of breach of peace, disturbance of public tranquillity and grave danger to human lives and property within the revenue jurisdiction of Tengnoupal", according to news agency PTI.
