Jharkhand woman strangles 2-year-old son for crying during her call, arrested

JJ News Desk

A woman in Jharkhand's Giridih district allegedly strangled her 2-year-old son for disturbing her while she was on a phone call. The woman was allegedly irritated by her son's crying while she was on a phone call with someone.

The woman, Afsana Khatoon, had married Nizamuddin six years ago and the couple had two sons, aged four and two.

Afsana's father-in-law and complainant, Rojan Ansari, said that on Thursday, Afsana reportedly locked herself in a room with her younger son after a fight with her husband. She was on a phone call when her son started crying. Instead of comforting him, she strangled him, the family alleged.

Afsana didn't open the door for a while. The matter came to light when she called her husband inside the room to sleep, and he found their son unconscious. The toddler was rushed to the hospital, but he died.

Meanwhile, Afsana, who has been arrested and sent to jail, claims that she did not intend to kill her son and that he died after she, irked over his crying, pushed him in anger, causing him to fall off the bed.

The police have sent the child's body for postmortem and further investigations are underway.
