A 25-year-old man was arrested by Hyderabad Police for allegedly shooting his girlfriend's father, after the latter sent her daughter to the United States "to break their relationship".
The accused, identified as Balwinder Singh, who was a classmate of the man's daughter, fired one round with the airgun causing injury to his right eye, police said.
The incident occurred after Balwinder went to the man's apartment on Sunday to confront him. As the situation escalated, Balwinder allegedly fired one round from an air gun, injuring the man in the eye.
CCTV footage of the incident shows Balwinder entering the building complex with an air gun in his hand. Balwinder fled the scene after firing at the man, which resulted in the shattering of his car's windshield.
Balwinder was arrested after a case under Section 109 (attempt to murder) and others of BNS and relevant provisions of the Arms Act was registered against him at Saroornagar police station, news agency PTI quoted a police official as saying.
In his complaint, the man alleged that Balwinder was harassing his daughter in the name of love and that he had also quarreled with him recently over the matter.
The man is undergoing treatment in a hospital and futher investigation into the matter is underway.
