A female tarot card reader was allegedly raped by a man known to her in Delhi's Neb Sarai area, the police said. She had contacted the man in January seeking help to sell a property, and they struck up a friendship later on the pretext that he wanted to learn astrology from her.

The 36-year-old filed a police complaint on February 11 saying she had contacted the accused, identified as 40-year-old Gaurav Aggarwal, in January regarding the sale of a property.

She said that Aggarwal visited her residence and assured her that he would help with the sale of the property.

The woman also said that when he learnt that she was into astrology, he pretended that he was also interested and started calling her on the pretext that he wanted to learn it from her.

On January 24, the man called her to a friend's house in Neb Sarai to finalise the property deal. The woman claimed that she fell unconscious after consuming a drink which was allegedly laced, during which he raped her.

The police said that an FIR has been filed on the basis of the woman's complaint and a case under Sections 328/376/506 of the IPC has been registered against the man, who is currently on the run.

According to the FIR, the woman told her husband about the incident on February 10 and they both went to confront Aggarwal in his office located in Malviya Nagar, the PTI news agency reported.

An investigation is underway to nab the accused.
