A duststorm hit several parts of Delhi-NCR on Thursday night, bringing slight relief from the heatwave conditions in the region. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the national capital witnessed a change in the weather due to the impact of a new western disturbance.
The weather office predicted a partly cloudy sky with a possibility of a duststorm or thunderstorm, accompanied by light rain for Friday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are forecast to be 43 degrees Celsius and 29 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Delhi's maximum temperature on Thursday was recorded at 41.2 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal, and a dip from 44 degrees Celsius recorded on Wednesday. The minimum temperature settled at 24.6 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal.
The Met department predicted heatwave conditions to persist in isolated pockets of northeast Madhya Pradesh till June 10, Jharkhand between June 7-10, and Punjab, Haryana and Bihar between June 8-10.
Heatwave conditions were forecast in isolated pockets of Uttar Pradesh on June 7 (Friday) and hot and humid weather conditions were likely in isolated pockets of Bihar on June 7 and Gangetic West Bengal till June 10.
Some relief from the heatwave was expected with light to very light rainfall with thunderstorm and gusty winds in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on June 7. Duststorm was also possible in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Rajasthan on June 7, according to the weather office.
The IMD has predicted a hailstorm in isolated pockets of West Rajasthan on June 7.
SOUTHWEST MONSOON UPDATE, RAIN FORECAST
Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon further advanced into most parts of Karnataka, some more parts of Maharashtra, Telangana and Coastal Andhra Pradesh, the IMD said.
Conditions were favourable for further advance of the monsoon into the remaining parts of Karnataka and Coastal Andhra Pradesh, some more parts of Maharashtra (including Mumbai), some parts of south Chhattisgarh and south Odisha, during the next three to four days.
The weather office forecast fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm and gusty winds in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the next five days.
Isolated heavy rainfall was very likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim till June 10. Nagaland may also witness isolated heavy rainfall on June 10.
Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm and gusty winds was possible in Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Saurashtra, Kutch, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana and Karnataka during the next five days, and in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Kerala on June 7 and 8, the Met department said.
