The man who killed his 29-year-old son, a gym trainer, in Delhi committed the crime to "teach his estranged wife a lesson", police said on Friday. He had been planning the murder for three to four months, the investigation revealed.

The 54-year-old accused, Rang Lal, who fled Delhi after committing the crime on the night of February 6-7, was arrested in Jaipur.

The gym trainer Gaurav Singhal was killed by his father, who stabbed him 15 times in the face and chest at his south Delhi home, hours before he was supposed to get married.

At around 12.30 am on February 7, the police found him in a pool of blood with stab marks all over his body. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead.

“During interrogation, it was revealed that the father’s relationship with his wife and the son was not smooth and the father committed this murder to teach his wife a lesson,” he added.

According to the police, a heated argument between the son and father ensued on Wednesday night, during which Gaurav slapped his father, enraging him.

The father had been planning to kill his son for the past three to four months, the interrogation revealed.
