A CRPF officer was killed during an ongoing encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district on Monday.

According to sources, the CRPF inspector led his team to check the progress of a post being prepared for further deployment of a CRPF battalion. During this, they were ambushed by terrorists.

The CRPF officer was hit by an enemy bullet and was killed in action, sources confirmed.

The post is about eight kilometres from the police post in Dudu area of Udhampur. This post was being set up as part of the new anti-terror steps in the hilly areas of Jammu.

The Jammu region has seen increased terrorist activity in the recent months. In July, four Army personnel, including an officer, and a police personnel were killed during a gunfight with heavily armed terrorists in Doda district. The attack was claimed by 'Kashmir Tigers', a shadow group of Pakistan-backed terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).

On July 8, five Army personnel, including a junior commissioned officer, died, and as many were injured when terrorists ambushed an Army convoy on a rugged mountainous road in Kathua district.

On July 6, six terrorists were shot dead by security forces in twin gunfights in Kulgam district. Two soldiers lost their lives during the separate encounters.
