Podcaster Kevin Brennan, who used to write for ‘Saturday Night Live’, is facing immense backlash on social media for mocking the death of Friends actor Matthew Perry. Matthew was found dead in his bathtub at his Los Angeles home. Following the tragic loss, Kevin took to his X handle and wrote, “Drowned in a hot tub, hahahaha’.”
Later, the podcaster re-shared a media report the headline of which read, “Ex-SNL Writer-Comedian Kevin Brennan Mocks Matthew Perry’s Death.” Reacting to it, Kevin argued that he did not ‘mock’ Perry’s death but thought that it was ‘funny’. “I didn’t mock it. I just thought it was funny. But I do love it when junkies die,” he wrote.
This left a large number of Perry fans disappointed and furious. Replying to Kevin’s post, one of the netizens wrote, “I will never understand the mindset of someone who posts sh*t like this. I wish you well bc you must be sick’.” To this, the comedian replied, “Thank you”.
“Oh wow. You’re a really terrible person. No wonder you don’t have any friends,” another comment on Kevin’s post read. Of of the users called him ‘disgusting’ and wrote, “It’s really sad when someone takes a tragedy and tries to gain popularity from it.”
Matthew Perry was found dead in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home, law enforcement sources told the LA Times earlier this week as reported by Variety. Following the tragic loss, the actor’s family had also issued a statement saying that his fans and well-wishers “meant so much” to him. “We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother,” the family said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE. “Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend. You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love,” their statement read.
