Chlorine gas leaks in Dehradun, locals evacuated after they face breathing issues

An incident of chlorine gas took place in Dehradun’s Jhajra area on Tuesday morning. Police officials evacuated locals in the area after they complained of breathing difficulties.

According to sources, some chlorine gas cylinders were dumped at an empty plot in Dehradun’s Jhajra area which leaked on Tuesday morning.

On receiving information, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Singh, local police teams, fire tenders and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams rushed to the spot.

With their safety gear and masks on, rescue teams began their operation to contain the gas leak and bring the situation under control by digging up holes to burry the faulty cylinders.

“Upon arrival, we found around five faulty chlorine gas cylinders lying on the ground. We have removed the cylinders from the area. So far, no casualty has been reported,” he said.
