A sharpshooter, identified as Madhur alias Ayaan, connected to the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi and Hashim Baba gangs, was arrested following a dramatic encounter with the Delhi Police's Special Cell in the Narela area on Saturday.
The arrest comes in the wake of his alleged involvement in the murder of gym owner Nadir Shah, who was shot dead outside his gym in Greater Kailash 1 on September 12.
Madhur, a resident of Kabir Nagar, sustained bullet injuries to both legs during the exchange of fire and has since been admitted to a local hospital for treatment.
According to police officials, Madhur and his associate Raju are accused of shooting the 35-year-old Shah, who had a history of criminal cases, including robbery and attempted murder.
The encounter unfolded around 8 pm when the Special Cell received a tip-off regarding Madhur's movements along the Narela-Bawana road.
Acting on the information, the police laid a trap and signalled Madhur, who was riding a motorcycle, to stop near a housing complex at approximately 9 pm. Upon noticing the police presence, Madhur allegedly opened fire.
In response, the police team retaliated, resulting in a fierce exchange of gunfire with a total of 11 rounds fired from both sides. During the shootout, Madhur sustained injuries to his right knee and left ankle.
Notably, a bullet fired by Madhur struck a police official, who was wearing a bulletproof jacket at the time.
From the scene, police recovered a .32 semi-automatic pistol along with eight live cartridges. Additionally, the motorcycle, a Honda Hornet, which Madhur was using during the encounter, has been seized as part of the investigation.
