Three jawans were killed and three injured in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch after terrorists ambushed two Army vehicles, officials said, as quoted by news agency PTI.

The two vehicles were carrying jawans from an area near Bufliaz where an operation against terrorists has been underway since Wednesday night.

An operation was being conducted in the general area DKG (Dera ki Gali), Thanamandi, Rajouri, since last night.

The vehicles were attacked in the Savni area on the Rajouri-Thanamandi-Surankote road around 3.45 pm.

The terrorists fired upon the police vehicles, including a truck and a Gypsy. The vehicles were carrying jawans from an area near Bufliaz where a cordon-and-search operation against terrorists has been underway since Wednesday night.

"Based on hard intelligence, a joint operation was launched last night. Contact was established today evening and an encounter is in progress. Further details are being ascertained," a defence PRO told news agency PTI.

This incident comes after an explosion occurred inside the compound of an armed police unit in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on Wednesday.

Windows of some vehicles parked near the compound were damaged due to the explosion that occurred on the intervening night of December 19 and 20 in Surankote area, officials had said.
