A goods train en route to Bargarh from Dunguri in Odisha derailed on a private narrow gauge rail line on Monday morning. Five bogies of the goods train carrying limestone derailed near Sambardhara of Bargarh district.

Officials said the incident happened inside a private siding. A private siding is owned by a company and its maintenance and operations are not done by the Railways.

The incident comes just three days after a horrific triple train collision in Odisha claimed at least 288 lives.

Police have already reached the spot and begun a probe. No casualty has been reported so far.

There is a private narrow gauge rail line between Dungri Limestone Mines and Cement Plant of ACC Bargarh. The line, wagons, loco all are private. It is in no way connected with the Indian Railway system, the officials said.

According to the East Coast Railway, all the infrastructure including rolling stock, engine, wagons, train tracks (narrow gauge) are being maintained by the private cement company and it has no link to the Indian railway system.

"Some wagons of a goods train operated by a private cement factory derailed inside the factory premises near Mendhapali of Bargarh district in Odisha. There is no role of Railways in this matter," East Coast Railway said in a statement.

"This is completely a narrow gauge siding of a private cement company. All the infrastructure including rolling stock, engines, wagons, train tracks (narrow gauge) are being maintained by the company," it added.
