JJ News Desk

A woman in Andhra Pradesh died by suicide allegedly due to online harassment. Her family has alleged that she took the extreme step after she was trolled on social media by workers of the opposition parties TDP and Jana Sena for speaking in favour of Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy.

"As per the version of the Loco Pilot (of the train), she committed suicide by coming in front of a train, sustained multiple injuries all over the body, admitted to GGH, Guntur where she succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment Monday," the police said in a statement.

"In the investigation, it came to light that Geetanjali participated in one of the programs where she received a land patta. There she gave an interview to local media channels and it went viral on platforms. After getting viral she was brutally trolled," Guntur Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi said.

Reacting to the news, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family.

He directed officials to take strong action against the social media users who allegedly posted inappropriate comments on Geetanjali's interview on a YouTube channel. The ruling YSRCP workers staged protests demanding justice for Geetanjali.

"Geetanjali can be seen lying on the floor inside the train, with people checking on her. Based on the conversation heard in the video, it was revealed that two unknown individuals pushed Geetanjali into the running train and then fled the scene," TDP stated and added that she was killed in broad daylight.
