Six members of a family and the driver of the autorickshaw they were travelling in were killed when a Hyundai Creta collided with it in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor on Saturday, police said.
The Creta, which was overtaking another vehicle, rammed into the autorickshaw on National Highway 74 in Dhampur. Six family members, including a newly-wed couple, died on the spot, and the autorickshaw driver died during treatment.
"We received the information early this morning. The Creta was overtaking another vehicle when it suddenly changed lanes and collided with the auto at high speed. There were seven people in the auto. Six of them died instantly, while the auto driver passed away during treatment. The post-mortem of all the bodies is currently being conducted," Bijnor SP Abhishek said.
victims included four men, two women, and a girl. According to the police, the entire family was returning home after attending a wedding in Jharkhand.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath condoled the deaths of the accident victims and ordered the expediting of treatment, his office said.
"The Chief Minister has expressed his condolences to the bereaved families. He instructed the concerned district administration officials to reach the spot, expedite the relief work, and immediately take the injured to the hospital for proper treatment. He also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured," the Chief Minister's office said.
