5 killed, 19 injured after truck driver falls asleep while driving, rams into tea shop

At least five people were killed and 19 others were injured after a truck carrying cement bags crashed into a tea shop and other vehicles parked nearby in Tamil Nadu's Pudukkottai district. The accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday.

Several Sabarimala temple pilgrims were having tea at the shop when a lorry rammed into it. A car and other two-wheeler vehicles which were parked near the tea shop were also damaged in the accident.

Based on the preliminary investigation, police told indiatoday.in that the driver of the cement truck lost control after he supposedly fell asleep while driving. The truck was travelling from Ariyalur to Sivagangai.

Further investigation by the police was on.
