The death toll of Maoists killed in an eight-hour-long security encounter in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur on Tuesday has increased to 13, authorities said on Wednesday.

The death toll of Maoists killed in an eight-hour-long security encounter in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur has increased to 13 after personnel recovered three more bodies on Wednesday morning, authorities said.

As of Wednesday morning, a total of 13 bodies have been recovered by the personnel so far.

Bijapur district comes under the Bastar Lok Sabha constituency, which will go to polls in the first phase of the national elections on April 19, the PTI news agency reported.

The latest security encounter came about a week after six Maoists were killed in an encounter on March 27 in Bijapur's Basaguda area.
