Around 100 students from a school in Balasore district in Odisha fell ill after eating their midday meal on Thursday.

The students from Udayanarayan Nodal School in Sirapur village in Balasore were served rice and curry as part of their midday meal. After sometime, a student discovered a lizard in the food, following which the school authorities halted the distribution of the meal and told the students not to eat.

Several students began experiencing stomach aches and chest pain symptoms, following which they were rushed to the nearest community health centre in ambulances and other vehicles.

A medical team also visited the school to administer treatment for the students. Several students vomited after receiving medical care, following which they were rushed to the community health centre for further treatment.

The block education officer said that an investigation would be conducted, and legal action would be taken against the people found guilty.
