S Jaishankar Represents India at the Global SCO Summit in Kazakhstan, Hoping to Improve Ties With China

Dr. S Jaishankar meets the Russian and Chinese Counterpart to discuss the issues regarding the national security on the borders.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) this time has been organized in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, it is the 24th meeting of the SCO Summit, which is held on 3rd and 4th of July. There are 8 countries the part of this, SCO Summit, including: India, Pakistan, China, Kazakhstan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. 

This time, our Minister of External Affair, Dr. S. Jaishankar is representing India, in the summit, as Prime Minister Modi is busy in the parliamentary session, right now. Today, Jaishankar held a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, according to reports the main motive was to discuss the tension on the borders of the eastern part of Ladakh. Jaishankar wanted to raise the concerns of national security and tried to build up good relation with the Chinese minister. The meeting was held amid the SCO Summit, which showcased hopes that the diplomatic relation between India and China will become better. 

In a tweet on X, Jaishankar said, “Discussed early resolution of remaining issues in border areas. Agreed to redouble efforts through diplomatic and military channels to that end. Respecting the LAC and ensuring peace and tranquility in the border areas is essential. The three mutuals - mutual respect, mutual sensitivity and mutual interest – will guide our bilateral ties.” 

In a report from PTI, claimed that in the 24th SCO Summit, all the 9 countries would probably discuss the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the situation in Afghanistan, and they would focus on enhancing the security cooperation in all the SCO member countries. The Ministry of External Affairs said, “At the summit, the leaders are expected to review the organization’s activities over the past two decades and discuss the status and prospects of multilateral cooperation.” They also explained that S. Jaishankar is going to raise the concerns harming the security of the nation, and India’s center point will be focused on the perception of the Prime Minister, of a ‘Secure’ SCO. Here, “Secure” stands for Security, Economic Cooperation, Connectivity, Unity, Respect for Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity and Environmental Security. 

The SCO Summit, is one of the powerful organizations as it has been one of the effective communities in the world, and all the 9 countries which are the part of the organization are able to solve out the tension between the border and build a healthy relation with other countries.
