JJ News Desk

A ground worker at the Hong Kong airport was killed after he fell from a tow-truck and was run over by an aircraft.

Police said they received a call from airport staff at around 3 am on Tuesday, that a man had been found unconscious at West Apron, media reports said.

Emergency personnel subsequently found the 34-year-old man with multiple injuries on his body and declared him dead at the scene.

The Airport Authority earlier said the victim was an employee of China Aircraft Services responsible for aircraft towing.

Police said they believed that the man was riding in the passenger seat of a tow truck when he fell out of the vehicle and was hit by the plane being pulled behind it, police said.

"It is suspected that the seat belt was left unfastened while the staff was working on the (vehicle)," the authority said.

Meanwhile, the 60-year-old truck driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and was being detained for further questioning.
