Israel alleges Al Jazeera reporter 'prominent Hamas commander', shares pics

The Israeli Army has claimed that a Palestinian journalist, working for Al Jazeera, is also a senior commander in Hamas's military wing, according to pictures and documents recovered by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in the Gaza Strip.

Lieutenant Colonel Avichay Adrae, the IDF's Arabic-language spokesperson, said that the evidence was retrieved from a laptop that belonged to Mohamed Washah, who has reportedly featured in Al Jazeera's broadcasts in recent months.

Adraee said that evidence was recovered from Washah's laptop during an IDF operation several weeks ago inside one of the Hamas camps in the northern Gaza Strip. Israel claimed that evidence revealed Washah was a "prominent commander" in Hamas's anti-tank missile unit, and in late 2022, he commenced working in research and development for the terror group's air unit.

"The intelligence investigation conducted on the computer reveals images linking the person called Muhammad Washah to activities within Hamas. Who knows how many details we will reveal about the presence of other terrorists in journalistic garb in the near future," Adraee tweeted.

The IDF took a swipe at Al Jazeera, a Qatari state-owned television news network, on X.

Last month, two Al Jazeera journalists who were killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza's Rafah were later accused by the IDF of being members of Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror groups.
