Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has told External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar that Tehran will soon allow Indian government officials to meet with 17 Indian crew members on board a cargo ship, MSC Aries, that was seized by the Iranian military, near the Strait of Hormuz.
In response, the Iranian Foreign Minister said his government was following up on the details related to the seized cargo ship. He said that the possibility of representatives of the Indian government meeting with the crew will be provided soon.
On April 13, a video seen by The Associated Press, showed commandos raiding the Israel-linked ship near the Strait of Hormuz by helicopter. The incident came a day after Iran attacked Israel with around 300 drones and missiles late on Saturday, in retaliation for the April 1 Israeli strike on an Iranian embassy in the Syrian capital of Damascus.
He reiterated Iran's demand for a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza and the establishment of peace and security in the region from the Mediterranean shores to the Red Sea, it said.
During a phone call with the Iranian Foreign Minister, Jaishankar said he raised the issue of 17 Indian crew members stranded on board the MSC Aries.
In a similar tweet after holding talks with Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz, Jaishankar said, "Just concluded a conversation with Israel FM @Israel_katz. Shared our concern at the developments yesterday. Discussed the larger regional situation. Agreed to stay in touch."
