Indian-origin girl, mother killed in US road accident

A six-year-old Indian-origin girl and her mother were killed after their car collided with another vehicle in the US state of Oregon. According to the Oregon State Police, the car drove through a stop sign, which led to the collision.

The Oregon State Police said the accident, which also injured two other passengers, occurred on March 30 in Clackamas County, The Oregonian newspaper reported.

The girl's mother has been identified as 32-year-old Kakkera Geetanjali, and the injured were her husband Nareshbabu Kamathman (36) and their son.

Geetanjali and Nareshbabu, originally from Andhra Pradesh's Konakanchi village, were software engineers.

The Oregon State Police also said that there was slow traffic on the Oregon 211 highway for about five hours at the time of the incident.

The incident occurred while the family were on their way to a temple to celebrate Geetanjali's birthday.

Arrangements are underway to repatriate the remains of the victims to their hometown for the final rites.
