Donald Trump marked his 78th birthday on Friday, a milestone that will remind voters that the two major-party candidates (Trump and President Joe Biden) running for US president this year are the oldest ever to seek the office.
(Joe Biden is 81, while Trump is 78, just three-and-a-half years younger.)
Meanwhile, the Joe Biden presidential campaign, in a birthday message to Trump, said the former US President was a "crook, a failure, and a fraud."
"Happy birthday, Donald. You're a crook, a failure, a fraud, and a threat to our democracy, economy, rights, and future," the Biden campaign said.
In what can be the most brutal gift, the Biden campaign said, "On behalf of America, our early gift for your 79th: Making sure you are never President again."
Further, the Biden administration also shared a mocking list of Trump's 78 "accomplishments", saying that the former US President was the first one to be convicted and indicted on various charges.
The list also included some of Trump's difficulties as a business owner, his handling of the Charlottesville, Va., white nationalist rally in 2017, his call for the death penalty for the Central Park Five, a video he posted on social media that referenced a "unified Reich," his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, his efforts to overturn the Affordable Care Act, and his statements taking credit for ending Roe v. Wade.
In a separate X post, along with a short video contrasting his actions and policies with those of Trump, Joe Biden wrote, "Happy 78th birthday, Donald. Take it from one old guy to another: Age is just a number. This election, however, is a choice."
Age and mental sharpness have been at the center of the contest between the Republican Trump and his Democratic rival, President Joe Biden, often getting more attention than substantive policy issues in the run-up to the November 5 election.
TRUMP ADDRESSES CROWD IN FLORIDA
Donald Trump addressed a crowd in Florida on his birthday, and repeatedly dismissed Joe Biden as too frail to handle a second term.
"Our country is being destroyed by incompetent people," said Trump.
"All presidents should have aptitude tests," the former US President said.
Despite scoffing at Biden, even declaring that the President often "doesn't know where the hell he is," Trump also offered a seemingly contradictory message to his own supporters. He endorsed early voting, casting ballots by mail and also on Election Day in person, only to later note: "I actually tell our people, we don't need your vote. We've got so many votes."
