The idea of Communism and the United States of America going hand in hand is almost unimaginable. Both of them going hand in hand and coexisting might be a paradox in itself. However, Communism, long perceived as an alien agitation, has once again reared its head in public discourse in this capitalist nation.
"Say hello to America's communist generation," tweeted the X handle of the Revolutionary Communists of America (RCA) as it posted a video of some 500 party members marching in the eastern American city of Philadelphia.
And guess what, the march video received a short but strong reaction from X chief Elon Musk.
In the multiple videos posted on the party page, a contingent of a few hundred RCA members marched through Philadelphia streets, holding red communist flags with prominent hammer and sickle signage.
"Class War 2024," echoed as the march carried on.
Re-posting an RCA march video, whose caption said, "Billionaires are parasites", Elon chose just an exclamation mark to convey what he had to say.
Calling billionaires "parasites" on a platform owned by Musk, an American billionaire, must have prompted the sharp, but crisp reaction.
The reaction also perhaps conveys that the American billionaire is just 'out of words'.
As the United States of America is in the midst of the 2024 Presidential election, another RCA post on X said, "Join the party that will overthrow capitalism in our lifetime".
When alleged that the marching Communists would vote for the Democrats, the RCA handle replied, "Nope. Both Democrats and Republicans are parties of the billionaires".
That's why we founded a new party today," it added.
COMMUNIST PARTY FORMED IN THE US IN FEBRUARY
The RCA was founded in February as hundreds of "comrades gathered across the United States to discuss the founding of the Revolutionary Communists of America (RCA) — a new political party", according to a report by Marxist.com
The Founding Congress of the RCA took place on July 27 and 28 in Philadelphia, following which the march was organised.
The report said the party is "for the new generation of class fighters eager to get active and organised in the belly of the beast".
According to the RCA website, the launch announcement of the party attracted "overwhelming enthusiasm" with "hundreds of communists applying to join the new party within the first week".
They said it was proof that there are thousands of revolutionary communists in the US ready to organise and fight for revolution.
However, this political development in the US has hardly been covered by the American media. Perhaps that explains the gravity of the young men and women casually marching in Philadelphia.
Communism and America, no matter how alien to each other, have not meant that the capitalist nation has not seen any impact of the philosophy of Karl Marx. During the early 20th century, the US saw the rise of the Communist Party USA, which played a significant role in labour movements and civil rights activism.
