JJ News Desk

In an intriguing turn of events, a man from Achamangalam village in Tamil Nadu's Thirupattur district has reportedly discovered a gaping hole, created after a meteorite hit, in farmland owned by him.

The man was surprised to see heat emanating from the five-foot deep gaping hole which was suddenly created in his farmland.

Upon discovering the hole, the owner of the farmland informed the police as well as district officials, who reached the spot to examine the origin and nature of the gaping hole.

The officials collected samples from the depths of the hole and sent them to Vellore and Chennai for further analysis.

"We have collected samples from the pit and the surrounding spot. It is a meteorite that has hit the ground. It might have landed here coming in from the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter (planets)", District Science officer Ravi said.

The samples will also be sent to Ahmedabad for further analysis, he added.
