'Friends' actor Matthew Perry, 54, died due to a ketamine overdose in October 2023. On Thursday, August 15, five people were charged in connection with the actor's death. The defendants include doctors, Perry's assistant, and Jasveen Sangha, who prosecutors claim is a drug dealer, reported AP. Sangha has been arrested by the police.

According to court filings, Jasveen Sangha is nicknamed "Ketamine Queen," and her North Hollywood residence was a distribution point for the ketamine that killed Perry.
As per a BBC report, the 41-year-old is charged with selling 50 vials of ketamine for approximately 11,000 US dollars. It stated that Sangha was aware that the ketamine she distributed could be lethal. Martin Estrada, the US attorney for California's Central District, referred to Sangha's home as a "drug-selling emporium" during a news conference.
According to the federal indictment, Sangha, who has dual British and American citizenship, stored methamphetamine, cocaine, and prescription drugs like Xanax at her home. Her operations, which began at least in June 2019, came under investigation after she was caught selling methamphetamine in an unrelated case in March. During the raid on her home, federal agents found 79 bottles of liquid ketamine and nearly 2,000 meth pills, showing the extent of her illegal activities. Additionally, she is charged with five counts of actually selling ketamine.

A December 2023 autopsy report revealed that Perry's death was caused by the "acute effects of ketamine," which, along with other factors, led him to lose consciousness and slip under the water in the hot tub at his Los Angeles home. Additional factors in his death included drowning, coronary artery disease, and the impact of the opioid-addiction medication buprenorphine, which was also found in his system.
Perry had publicly acknowledged decades of drug and alcohol abuse, including during the years he starred as Chandler Bing on the hit 1990s television sitcom 'Friends'. He had been sober for 19 months with no known relapses before his death, according to interviews cited in his autopsy.
