Much like its teaser, the trailer of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani rides high on the quintessence of Bollywood. It makes for an interesting blend of everything that Hindi films in the 1990s and the early 2000s stood for – melodrama, romance, comedy, stunning costumes, opulent sets and elaborate song-and-dance sequences. Having inspired an entire generation with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) and then with Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001), which has achieved a cult status over the years, Karan returns to his comfort zone with Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which promises to be a true-blue saga which is ‘all about loving your family’.

Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt had earlier collaborated on filmmaker Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy (2019) but that was a world far removed from the milieu of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Tum Kya Mile might have received a mixed reaction from the audience but it will be interesting to see this dynamic duo romancing each other in the most Bollywood-esque fashion.

The film also stars veteran actors like Shabana Azmi, Dharmendra and Jaya Bachchan, who play Rocky and Rani’s grandparents. The trio don’t get much screen time in the trailer and that has only piqued our curiosity about their dynamic. Who also stand out among the cast are acclaimed Bangla actors, Churni Ganguly and Tota Roy Chowdhury, who play Rani’s parents. They get some of the funniest lines and their awkward encounters with Rocky are hilarious.
