Tamannaah Bhatia summoned by cyber cell in 'illegal' IPL streaming app case

The case pertains to the illegal broadcast of IPL 2023 on Fairplay app, a subsidiary of Mahadev online gaming and betting application.

Actor Tamannaah Bhatia has been summoned by the Maharashtra Cyber department in a case related to the illegal broadcast of the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Fairplay app, a subsidiary of Mahadev online gaming and betting application.

All these actors and singers had promoted the Fairplay app to watch IPL even as the app didn't have official broadcasting rights, leading to heavy losses for official broadcasters.

In September last year, an FIR was registered following a complaint by Viacom18, which possesses the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for streaming IPL matches. The complaint mentioned that betting app Fair Play platform was streaming the IPL matches illegally on their platform, leading to over Rs 100 crore loss for Viacom18.
